Since its founding, MGL has participated in a number of microgrid projects, with partners like LBNL (Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory), EPRI (Electric Power Research Institute) and Navigant Consulting. Our projects are spread across the US and Canada: California, Mississippi, New York, Tennessee, Washington D.C., and Ontario. We have worked with a variety of Microgrid DERs: PV (Photovoltaic), Battery Storage, CHP (Combined Heating and Power), Absorption Chillers, etc. The types of installations include: military bases, hospital complexes, business parks, cities, and municipalities.

Worked with LBNL in the assessment, planning, modeling and conceptual design of a Microgrid at Fort Hunter Liggett (FHL), an army base in California. This is a renewable energy intensive Microgrid. The Microgrid operates in both grid-connected and islanded modes, and can participate in energy markets.
We are currently working with LBNL, EPRI, GE, One Cycle Controls, and Customized Energy Solutions to implement a Microgrid energy management and control system at FHL, under an ESTCP funded project.
MGL is part of the team, lead by LBNL, that will be implementing a renewable intensive Microgrid that operates in both grid-connected and islanded modes, and can participate in energy markets. MGL worked on the assessment, planning, modeling and conceptual design of a base-wide, renewable intensive microgrid at Camp Parks, an army base in California.
Worked in partnership with EPRI and Navigant Consulting for the feasibility study, DER-CAM modeling, and conceptual design of a Microgrid for the City of Buffalo, NY involving solar PV, battery energy storage, CHP and district heating.
Supported EPRI in assessment, planning, DER-CAM modeling and conceptual design of a 20 MW campus Microgrid at the University of Mississippi Medial Center in Jackson MS. The Microgrid consists of solar PV, battery energy storage, and CHP.
Worked with EPRI in assessment, planning, DER-CAM modeling and conceptual design of a 30 MW campus Microgrid complex with multiple facilities for the Buffalo National Medical Center(BNMC) campus. The Microgrid consists of solar PV, storage, and Combined Heat and Power system and also serves the adjacent residential neighborhood.
Worked with EPRI in planning a Microgrid for the medical campus at Saint Elizabeth's. We supported the site assessment and conceptual design of the Microgrid.
Worked with EPRI in developing a Microgrid concept for the over 10 MW campus Microgrid at a large business park in Tennessee. For this project, we supported EPRI with site assessment and conceptual design.
Supported LBNL in evaluating the operation of a district heating/cooling facility in Washington DC as a feasibility study. This was done in partnership with ICHPS (Integrated CHP Systems Corp.), who provided expertise in the thermal engineering aspects. In the case of the district heating/cooling facility in Washington DC, we were called in to assess the current operations, and we made a number of recommendations.
